Seriously, what can one write about a band that has been so well covered in the media and by other musicians? Truly, there is nothing I could say that hasnโt been said already. However, 50 years on, the Beatles still thrive and although they have long since dropped off the top charts, their albums continue to sell and their songs are favorites among many musicians.
So, it is no wonder that when the executives at Parlaphone sit down and discuss the next best way to go back to the well for more, they up the ante with elaborate box sets that surpass literally every other box set I have encountered to this date.
Of course, the compelling reason to even lay down another penny of your hard earned money for an album you likely have heard thousands of times before, clearly is to immerse yourself in the all new high resolution stereo and surround mixes which definitely clean up the sound and bring out additional clarity. The expanded 6 CD + Blu-ray package includes the album's 30 tracks newly mixed by producer Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell in stereo and 5.1 surround audio, with an additional 27 early acoustic demos and 50 session takes, most of which are previously unreleased in any form.
I could write a full review for this lavish box set, but I know you will already want to own it, and in case you are slow to pull the trigger with the constant fluctuation in price from under $100 to over $150 US, please read this Audiophile Review to help you rationalize adding this essential collectors set into your library! Trust me when I say, we all know the band was revolutionary back in the day, and this mix is revolutionary for what it has done with the source material! It is a new album all over again.
