Various Artists - Concert for George

The SDE Shop has exclusively released “Concert for George,” a performance tribute held at London's Royal Albert Hall on November 29, 2002, in honor of the passing of George Harrison. The album has been newly remixed in Dolby Atmos audio taking fans back to this momentous evening which was organized by Olivia Harrison and Eric Clapton. The show features an all-star line-up that includes Eric Clapton, Jools Holland, Jeff Lynne, Paul McCartney, Monty Python, Tom Petty, Billy Preston, Ravi and Anoushka Shankar, Ringo Starr, Dhani Harrison, and more. Lynne, a longtime friend and collaborator of Harrison’s music, produced the audio elements of the concert, while Clapton served as the Musical Director.

The Concert for George captures stunning renditions of some of the most significant music of the 20th century, such as 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps,' 'Taxman,' and 'The Inner Light.' To coincide with the 20th anniversary of the 2002 concert, fans can now re-experience the concert in immersive Dolby Atmos, newly remixed by GRAMMY-winning engineer Paul Hicks, and is available exclusively on Blu-ray audio format from the SDE shop.

The SDE-exclusive Blu-ray features all the audio from the concert, including the complete sound recordings, the beautiful Indian music performed by Anoushka Shankar, Monty Python numbers, and Sam Brown's rendition of 'Horse to the Water' with Jools Holland. The complete sound recordings, which run for almost two hours, were previously only released as an audio product via the 4LP vinyl set issued in 2018 and have never been issued on CD. Note: there is no video on this audio only Blu-ray.

According to Hicks, who worked on the Atmos mix for the Blu-ray, concert audio mixes typically place the listener in a seat where you're looking at the band, but for this Blu-ray, you're standing where the singers are, making it nice and immersive. With the theatrical Dolby Atmos mix meant for screenings, the new mix for the Blu-ray can be a bit more daring and bolder, particularly since Apple Music and others have embraced spatial technology, making people more receptive to immersive audio experiences.

Fans of George Harrison, the Beatles, and the many artists that appear on this concert recording are recommended to add this into their collection. The Blu-ray is a limited run edition, and for collectors of immersive audio, this is your opportunity to add a great concert into your Atmos collection.

Released February 24, 2023.
