At the heart of Blackfield there is a musical collaboration that spans over 22 years, created by a deep friendship and brotherhood between its two members, Aviv Geffen and Steven Wilson. The duo has been working together intermittently for some two decades and has produced a body of work that is now being reissued in the limited edition album “An Accident of Stars: 2004-2017.” The music of Blackfield is characterized by a distinctive sound that could only have emerged from the collaboration of Geffen and Wilson.
Each artist was already an established rock vocalists, songwriters, producers, and multi-instrumentalists when they first began collaborating. Geffen remains one of Israel's most iconic and best-selling musicians, known for performing at stadium level in his home country. Wilson, on the other hand, had been leading the celebrated British rock band Porcupine Tree when he first caught Geffen's attention with his late '90s output. By 2010, Wilson had shifted into a solo career that has earned him a dedicated global following.
Kscope, the record label that Blackfield is signed to, has now released a collection of albums from the band's Kscope years. The collection includes the first five albums, a bonus disc featuring the band's previously unreleased performance at Paradiso, Amsterdam from 2011, a newly produced Blu-ray featuring all the albums in high resolution stereo and the 5.1 surround mixes from the three albums that were previously available on DVD and now are all included on a single Blu-ray. The deluxe book-set comes with a 64-page book that details the band's journey through interviews with both Geffen and Wilson, providing an insight into the beginnings and inner workings of their collaboration.
Geffen and Wilson view their Kscope years as a period of significant discovery, evolution, and accomplishment. The Blackfield albums showcase the duo's unique sound and the impressive songwriting and production skills of both Geffen and Wilson. Looking back at their collaboration, Wilson realizes how distinctive their sound is and how much of it could only have emerged from the two of them working together. Geffen, meanwhile, continues to produce songs that blow Wilson away, making Blackfield a special collaboration that has delivered some of the most memorable pop songs of recent times.
