Miles Davis forged a daring path which abruptly changed his musical direction upon the release of “Bitches Brew” at the start of the 1970’s, The path was sparse and filled with rock, paring melody back to the minimum, while spooling out the sketchiest of themes and leaving behind a more conventional musical structure. For many Bitches Brew may be a difficult listen, yet it became Davis’s first gold album, and has gone on to absolutely become required listening for any jazz aficionados. One will easily find themselves falling into a rabbit hole where free-form grooves pave the way through an extraordinary aural montage of fusion Avant guard, only to emerge with an entirely new perspective on what music can be. Repeated listens will find new landscapes emerging, and this double album is absolutely the right one for your Desert Island Collection, as it will always give the listener something new each time.
