The truth to the matter is each of Jim Croce’s albums are a magical blend of blue collar life and a deep love for life. That makes it a bit harder to select one from any of the three albums he recorded during his initial two years in the business. Yet, “I Got a Name” includes the title track and “I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song,” both which sailed into the Top 20 and were written in the singer/songwriter tradition. Sadly Croce was killed in a plane accident while shuffling around the country performing to make ends meet. Even with his multitude of top hits, the one sided contract he signed with the labels left him and his family with too little at the end of each day. Over the years his albums have endured and remain required listening for songwriters and naturaly those of us who seek songs focused on real life matters. Make sure to tuck this into your Desert Island Collection.
