Edgar Froese is the founding member of the world-renowned electronic band Tangerine Dream, and as one would expect, his albums mirror much of their sound. Having released a few excellent solo works prior to “Pinnacles,” one must ask what puts this one at the top of the heap? Pinnacles is very omnipresent, with lively beat sequencers and a multitude of discrete keyboard layers. Froese integrates melodic parts overtop a variety of floating streams of synth elements. He also finds subtle ways to merge electric guitars with the layers of keyboards. Overall this is a wonderful album to kick back and relax. It is perfect for those dreamy moments and well worth tucking into your Desert Island Collection.
